Brighter Youth Talking Therapies

Brighter Youth Talking Therapies gives you your own space to talk about life, family stuff, worries, or anything that’s affecting you. You’ll get one‑to‑one support from someone who listens, at your pace, about whatever matters to you.

Who is it for?

Brighter Youth offers free, short-term, confidential, one-to-one counselling for children and young people living in Wrexham County Borough.

The service is usually available from your 8th birthday until your 19th birthday.

If you have additional learning needs, you may also be able to access Brighter Youth up to your 25th birthday.

You don't need to know exactly what you want to talk about before getting in touch. We can help you think about what's going on, how you're feeling and what you would like to be different.

Brighter Youth provides up to 10 counselling sessions, so we'll talk with you about whether this type of short-term support is likely to be right for you.

What if I can access counselling somewhere else?

Brighter Youth is not usually provided at the same time as another counselling or talking therapy service.

If counselling is available through your school, college or another service, it's worth considering whether that might be the right support for you.

You can still register with Brighter Youth if you think our service may be more appropriate.

If you're already receiving, waiting for, or have recently received counselling or other support, you can tell us about this when you register. We'll consider your individual circumstances and talk with you about the most appropriate support.

What can Brighter Youth help with?

You'll have one-to-one sessions with a qualified counsellor who will give you your own space to talk about what's going on, how you're feeling and anything that's bothering you.

You can say as much or as little as you want, we go at your pace.

Counselling gives you a chance to talk things through, make sense of how you're feeling and explore what might help.

Some of the things we could help with include:

  • making sense of what's going on

  • coping with stress or worries

  • finding ways to express how you feel

  • feeling more confident in yourself

  • feeling more listened to and understood

  • making home life feel easier

  • making family relationships feel less stressful

You don't have to fit into one of these examples. You decide what feels important to talk about in your sessions. We're here to help you feel supported and make things feel a bit easier.

What does Brighter Youth provide?

Brighter Youth provides up to 10 free sessions of confidential one‑to‑one support with a qualified counsellor.

Sessions can be held face‑to‑face at our friendly community building in Wrexham (3 Belmont Road, Wrexham, LL13 7PW). To ease any anxieties you have around visiting our building, you can have a virtual tour here

We can offer online sessions if that feels easier for you.

Or we can meet in a private, trusted community space you already know, as long as it’s confidential and suitable for one-to-one counselling.

We'll talk with you about the options and what will work best for you.

How do I access Brighter Youth?

You can register yourself for Brighter Youth by completing our online registration form.

Or you can ask a trusted adult, such as a parent/carer, support worker, teacher or another professional, to complete the form with you or for you.

If someone completes the form for you, they should talk to you about it first so that you know they are registering you for support.

If you've got questions or would like some help completing the form, you can message us through our website, email info@abfwxm.co.uk or call us on 01978 364777. We'll be happy to talk things through with you.

What happens after I register?

Once we receive your form, a member of the Brighter Youth team will review the information you've provided.

If Brighter Youth looks like it may be suitable for you, we'll contact you or your agreed parent/carer contact to arrange a Welcome Chat.

The Welcome Chat gives us a chance to find out a little more about you and what you'd like support with. We'll explain more about Brighter Youth, answer any questions you have and talk with you about what happens next.

The Welcome Chat helps us decide whether Brighter Youth is the right service for you.

Completing the registration form does not mean that a counselling place has been confirmed or that you have been added to the counselling waiting list.

If you need urgent help

Brighter Youth is not an emergency or crisis service.

If you need urgent help or you are concerned about your immediate safety, please do not wait for us to respond to your registration form. If there is an immediate risk to life or a medical emergency, call 999.
