Wrexham mental health and wellbeing charity Advance Brighter Futures (ABF) recently had some fantastic news, after being awarded £20,000 by the Postcode Community Trust.

Thanks to players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, the Postcode Community Trust supports smaller charities and good causes in Wales to make a difference to their community for the benefit of people and planet.

ABF has provided mental health and wellbeing support in Wrexham since 1992 and this funding will go towards the charity’s core team function, which helps ABF to continue its important work in the local community.

“INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL”

Cath Taylor, Business Development Officer at ABF, said: “We’re incredibly grateful that the Postcode Community Trust has backed us with this core funding. Core funding isn’t the most glamorous thing a funder can support, but it so important to us, particularly over recent months.

“In the past we’ve been able to manage operational costs through our own fundraising events, but Covid has severely impacted our ability to run these types of events, plus we’ve had to expand services to meet demand. This funding ultimately allows us to reach, support and assess more people.”

“AN INCREASED NEED”

The charity is thankful to the Postcode Community Trust for helping to meet its expanding costs after seeing an increased need for its services over the past year.

Cath added: “Requests for support have continued to increase over the past year and we want to be well-equipped to respond to this. We’ve also noticed an increased need for engagement and crisis work with the people we support in recent months, who require more specialist support from our core staff.

“To meet this demand, we’ve seen our team expand from 9 members of staff to 15 over the last 6 months. This important funding will really help to continue responding to the needs of our local community and providing them with the support they need.”
