Advance Brighter Futures’ newest employee Zoe Whitehead wants to use her own life experiences to help others who are experiencing well-being issues in the local community.
Zoe, 30, has been employed by Wrexham mental health and well-being charity Advance Brighter Futures (ABF) as its Business Development Officer. She says: “I’ve always been an advocate for mental health and well-being, so I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the ABF team.”
Zoe was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma (a rare cancer that develops in the lymphatic system) in April 2020. She underwent treatment during the pandemic and celebrated one year in remission January 2022.
Zoe’s recovery led her to searching for a job where she would be able to help others, which she’s now managed to find at ABF. She explains: “I’ve truly been inspired by those that have helped me on my journey with a cancer diagnosis, and the subsequent mental health battles that brings, and so I’m incredibly passionate about helping others and being able to use my own personal lived experience with mental health to help make a positive difference in other people’s lives.”
Zoe has enjoyed her short time with ABF so far, telling us: “I’m enormously proud to be part of the team and I’m really looking forward to helping continue the amazing work they do for the community and helping the local people of Wrexham with their mental health and well-being.
“And it’s a very exciting year for Advance Brighter Futures too, with the completion of our building extension and refurbishment, and we also celebrate our 30th anniversary this year!”
Advance Brighter Futures Chief Officer, Lorrisa Roberts added: “Zoe’s incredibly inspirational to all of us, having had so many challenges in her life already that she’s managed to overcome, and her passion for helping others really shone through during the interview process. We’re delighted to have her and I’m sure she’ll be a great addition to the team.”
